Nurse Intern

Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System understands that education is a vital, lifelong process, and it is important to the development of our employees. This philosophy is what drives SBL to be informed of the latest advancements, and keeps our patients on track to have the best possible outcomes. The Nurse Intern Program is an important piece of our nursing pipeline, as we strive to grow and retain the very best nurses and to provide the best possible care to our patients.

Sarah Bush Lincoln Nurse Intern Program for student nurses is designed to expand your understanding of the dynamic role of the RN. You’ll work right alongside members of our nursing team and learn the skills that will help your patients have the best experience possible and that will help you to be satisfied in your nursing career at SBL! This experience will help you learn to act and think like a nurse, sharpen your assessment and critical-thinking skills and develop relationships with other professionals throughout the hospital.

This is a highly competitive, part- to full-time paid summer internship lasting up to eleven weeks for current employees. During this incredible learning experience, you will also have an opportunity to discuss unit and hospital quality initiatives and review the latest trends and initiatives in healthcare. By the end of the summer, you will understand the professional role of the registered nurse and how nurses assess and meet the needs of their patients.

The purpose of this program is to provide current SBL employees an opportunity to advance their role in nursing at SBL. Following program completion, students may remain in the Nurse Intern position at SBL, with the expectation that Nurse Interns are planning to apply to the SBL Nurse Residency after graduation. Candidates who believe their career path lies at SBL will be preferred.

Nurse Intern Program experiences are available in our Medical & Surgical units, as well as many other units across the organization. The program will provide Nurse Interns with a specialized learning experience each week with a Nurse Subject Matter Expert. The objectives in the program are designed to build upon the skills you are already using in your current role at SBL. The skills that you will gain in this program will support your professional growth in many areas, including communication, critical thinking, and patient education.
